Updated: Jun 20, 2023

How Are You Feeling?

Are you feeling unhappy and unfulfilled? Do you feel stuck, demotivated, unable to complete tasks? Are you struggling to manage feelings of anxiety? Is it affecting your sleep and mood?

Have you lost meaning in your job or looking for more purpose in your life? Perhaps you’re overwhelmed, too stressed and close to burn out? Maybe you’re scared to make that career change, scared to end a relationship or scared to start dating again. Scared of change? Are you seeking recovery support from depression or addictions?

I see you. I hear you.

Try This Exercise:

Step 1: Breathe in - Breathe out (slow, long deep belly breaths - in and out your nose)

Step 2: Put your hand on your heart

Step 3: Repeat after me -

It’s ok to feel the way I feel. I acknowledge and accept I am feeling

[FILL IN THE BLANK]

(e.g I feel sad, I feel anxious, I feel hopeless…)

I am not alone.

I have the power to heal and grow from this.

The good news is that it is all FEAR. This is a good thing, but why? Because once we know we are functioning from a place of fear, there is a solution. Fear is an emotion in the body triggered by an experience. Guess what? Anxiety is a fear-based emotion. Therefore, you are not your emotional state - you are not what happened to you. This means the fear(s) can be understood from its root(s) and transformed in the present into something more useful from a place of love, not fear.

It is a physiological response happening in the body to a past experience. The body keeps score which is why anxiety is often a trauma response. Our body is saying it doesn’t feel safe and so goes into flight, fight or freeze. The more we do, the more re-traumatise the body. It’s time to do the healing work.

I will empower and change your relationship with emotions like anxiety and use them as a guide rather than resist, numb or be scared by it. You will regain control, regulate your body’s nervous system that has stored the trauma and help you understand and transform it. There is no quick fix – no formula for happiness – no magic wand to erase the past. BUT there is support which is a human need. Every therapist needs a therapist at times. Well done for showing up for yourself today.
